How to Care for Your Spices
1.
In general, the freshness of spices will typically last from 1-3 years if stored properly. Dried herbs can last 1-2 years, and your ground spices and blends can last as much as 2-3 years. The best way to keep your spices and spice blends tasting fresh is to store them in a cool, dark, and dry place.
2.
The three things that will quickly degrade spice are light, heat, and moisture. Keeping them at room temperature in a closed cabinet or pantry away from heat sources like stove tops, microwave ovens, and toasters will help your spices to retain their flavor and aroma for much longer.
3.
Because we don’t use any anticaking agents in our spices, we recommend adding a few dry kidney beans to the jar after opening. The beans will absorb moisture and help to keep your spices from clumping or hardening. They also act as an agitator when shaking the jar before use. Following these few simple tips will help preserve the freshness of your spices.
